  9. Number of years the race has been held: This is the second year of the Kathmandu International Marathon.

  10. Entry deadlines and/or process: All registration closes on 16th September 2008. 

  11. Packet pickup dates/Locations: All participants must pick up their Bib, T-shirt, and goodie bag from 15-18 September at the KIM Office at Hardic Fitness Centre, Jhamsikhel, Pulchowk, Lalitpur, Nepal. Please show your payment voucher.

  12. Official race T-shirt: One shirt per registrant - pick up at KIM Office at Hardic Fitness Centre, Jhamsikhel, Pulchowk, Lalitpur. No T-shirts or goodie bags will be mailed. It is not compulsory to wear this t-shirt for running. You can use cloths to your comfort.

  14. Online application available? No online registration for 2008.

  15. Wheelchair/walkers permitted? Yes, there is an extra race of 3km for the wheelchair. Walkers can join the 5K race.

  16. Time limits to complete Marathon: 5 hours and Streets will re-open. Organizers cannot take the guarantee of the traffic after that, but if any runner wishes to run in their own risk, we will recognize the finishers coming in after 1 hour of time limit.

  17. Parking for the Race Day: Parking available at United World Trade Center, Tripureshor and inside the National Stadium on Race Day.

  18. Finisher’s recognition: · Finishers of the Marathon, Half Marathon and Business Marathon (x4 Relay), will receive: finisher's certificate and finishers Medal.
  19. Finishers of 5K Open, 5K School, 5K Veteran and 3K wheel Chair will receive finisher's certificate.

    Top 25 Finishers of 5K Open, 5K School, 5K Veteran and 3K wheel Chair will also receive finishers Medal.

  20. Average temperatures for Race Day: At 6 a.m. the average temperature is 8-12 degrees (Fahrenheit).

Course description:

  1. Is the course certified?
    Yes. IAAF/AIMS Certified measurer Mr. Muregesu Sooosaimany has measured the route and we are waiting this to be certified by AIMS
  1. Type of race day transportation offered?   No.
  1. Aid Stations: · 24 fully supported water and sponging stations located at each mile beginning at 3 Km, as well as at the start line and post-finish area
  1. Recommended viewing locations?
    Entertainment centers along the course and on television.
  1. Expected number of spectators: 500,000 along the course.
  1. Medical Support: · There will be Medical Support at the Start/Finish and 8 medical stations along the course. Medical Tents. Massage tent is at the stadium.
  1. Awards Ceremony will be immediately after the race at 12.30 Pm Saturday, 20th September at the running track of the National Stadium, Tripureshore.
  1. Ceremony will be on 11th October 2008 at 15.00 Pm.
  1. Post-race entertainment: There will be food stalls and sports shops inside the stadium.
  1. If a participant is unable to pick up their goodie bag at the Marathon Office, Hardic Fitness Centre, Jhamsikhel, Pulchowk, can someone else pick it up for them?
    Yes, they will need to bring the confirmation card of the participant along with a copy of the participant's photo ID and a note signed by the individual authorizing the pick up.

  1. Can I run the Marathon course without registering?
    No... all runners without Kathmandu International Marathon bibs will be directed off the course immediately.
  1. Walkers and Slower Participants: The Kathmandu International Marathon welcomes walkers and back of the pack runners. A significant number of water stations will remain open later & vans will patrol the route providing support to these participants. We also suggest that walkers and slower participants consider using a fanny pack that accommodates a water bottle. If you plan on participating at a 15 minute pace per mile or slower, please be aware that our permit dictates that the streets that comprise the Marathon route are re-opened to vehicular traffic. Street cleaning trucks precede the streets re-opening and you will be required to move to the curb lane and/or sidewalk at that time.
  1. Is there any Registration Fee discounts? We offer all runners of PNO - People of Nepali origin to register in the rate of South Asian registration fee. Besides we offer all Nationals married to Nepali (male or Female) also to enjoy this privilege of registering in this rate only. Wheel Chair is free.
  1. School & Group Registration Fee Discount: Schools and Colleges have the discounted rate of registration fee of Rs 100 only. There will be no other extra discounts for groups for school and Colleges.
  1. A Competitive Starting Position
    A favorable starting position will be available to all qualifying Marathon entrants, the Competitive Position.
If you have completed a marathon or half-marathon since January 1, 2003 in a time faster than listed below and submit proof to The Kathmandu International Marathon Office of your time, you will be considered for a Competitive Start.
